Shenkar Building, Room 301
סמינר ארצי בפיזיקה גרעינית

PROGRAM:

12:30 - 13:00 - Refreshments

13:00 - 14:00 - The israeli Positron Annihilation Facility - Science and Applications, Guy Ron, Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Abstract:

This talk will present an overview of positron annihilation spectroscopy technique, focusing on lifetime measurements and coincidence Doppler spectroscopy. I will present the Israeli PAS facility, located at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, describe the construction and commissioning measurements, and show several experimental results and programs that are currently underway. In addition I will detail be the development of novel, graphene based, positron (charge) sensor, exhibiting (almost) single positron sensitivity, and motivate further developments towards even higher resolution devices.

14:00 - 14:30 - Coffee break

14:30 - 15:30 - Status and Missions of ELI-NP, Victor Malka, ELI-NP, Magurele, Romania / WIS, Israel

Abstract:

ELI-NP (Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics) is a cutting-edge research facility located in Măgurele, Romania, focused on exploring the frontiers of nuclear physics and high-intensity laser science. ELI-NP is one of the three pillars of the European ELI project, aimed at advancing scientific knowledge through the use of ultra-intense lasers and secondary radiation sources. The facility provides a dual 10 PW laser that is the world's most powerful laser system, capable of generating unprecedented light intensities reaching 1023W/cm2 and opening new avenues for research in fundamental physics, material science, and medical applications. ELI-NP's mission is to drive innovation, foster international collaboration, and contribute to technological advancements by providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and expertise to researchers worldwide.
